Ice Queen

The name “Ice Queen” may have negative connotations for most, but not at Zuhair Murad’s couture showing. A magical backdrop was created as snowflakes fell from above and cool blue lights lit the crisp glacier-like construction.
Models glided down the runway, dripping in crystals and draped in billowy chiffon confections. The gowns were fit for Czarinas, with luxury seeming to be the big theme. Murad incorporated rich fur onto chiffon gowns as collars, and created a spectacular boa with camel-colored thin feathers, looks worthy of replication.
The crystal-work was some of the best yet, employing many colors such as black, shades of blue, and gold rather than the standard clear Swarovski, while the beading was kept somewhat simple with mostly black bugles in horizontal rows.
Varied silhouettes were shown, but whether an asymmetric one-shouldered gown or a halter jumpsuit, the designer loved accentuating tiny waistlines. (The mirrored belts were a favorite.)
The wearability of the collection was also much appreciated, as surely many women are waiting for a chilly black-tie event worthy of Murad’s regal creations.
