Fashion Icons (Part 1)

Janis Joplin

Janis Joplin is an ultra-cool hippie feminist, she has pipes that would put Christina Aguilera to shame. (Listen to her song “Try Just A Little Bit Harder“- you’ll get it.) But her pipes weren’t the only thing she had going on in her heyday – her style was amazing! With piled-on jewelry, feathers, and loose garments in bright colors, this little lady was, and still is, the Belle of the Woodstock Ball.

If there is one defining thing that separates Janis’s style from the rest, it would be her accessories. Janis was fearless when it came to jewelry, often piling on mountains of bracelets, necklaces, and rings in just one outfit. And while on some, that would look gaudy and dirty, somehow for her it just worked.
In the set above, I’ve included some choice jewelry that can be bought online, but I also wanted to mention that much of this type of jewelry can be found easily if you visit your local thrift store or flea market. There, you can often find cheaper, more interesting, cooler, and better-made jewelry than you ever could at a regular store!
Above, I also included a super cute tie-dye dress. While oftentimes tie-dye is a fashion-don’t, it is definitely re-emerging among the fashion elite. (Remember the Proenza Schouler tie-dye tees? Genius!) Depending on the design and wash of a garment, tie-dye can be really beautiful and cool looking. Just don’t go too crazy with the colors or else you’ll look like your Uncle Bobby- you know, the one who always wears the same beer stained tie-dye shirt to every family barbecue. (Ewh.)

Trend Report: Lingerie Display

And that doesn't mean like trow your sports bra over your T-shirt .
This is how you rock the trend in lingerie including Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabbana and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Irish coach, Kors caps, bras and even hot pants: the lingerie is what the clock strikes this summer. Famous fans include Lily Allen and Rihanna, but if you're not a stage animal you something exciting in the daily wardrobe throw this season.
SO DO YOU KNOW
Start gradually and do not give everything away at once: one piece (satin) bra to squeak out a jacket, a lace edge here and there or visual clips in a dress (think Christopher Kane).
Wear something over your lingerie, a nice knitted cardigan or an oversized jacket. Chic and sexy!
NO-GO
Leave the red & black for what they are, but go for pretty pastels and nudes like Stella McCartney and Fendi. Romantic pieces and not as Hoochie, if you know what we mean ...
TOO MUCH?
Only one out of your blouse bra can make a squeaking little nudity. Work with layers of chiffon and tulle, so as to let the imagination.
PS - No a la Kylie buttocks? Leave the 'side pants "for what it is please!

Fluxus Appoints Jeffrey Sebelia as new Head Designer

Fluxus appointed Project Runway winner Jeffrey Sebelia as Head Designer. His collection is a mix of special wax treatments, sheer modal, and black stripe burnout putting a twist on the classics to give them a cool update while maintaining the everyday functionality Fluxus is known for. Introducing a line of knit garments in cutting-edge treatments, cuts, and shapes, the Fluxus partnership with Jeffrey redefines and challenges traditional silhouettes in easy-to-wear fabrics, creating, “a blend of classic fashion and modern flair.”
When Fluxus owner Martin Paquette met Jeffrey in August 2009, it became clear that the combination of Jeffrey’s elegant rock’n’roll aesthetic and Fluxus’ art-driven philosophy would create a revolution in the apparel industry. Introducing a line of knit garments in cutting-edge treatments, cuts, and shapes, the Fluxus partnership with Jeffrey redefines and challenges traditional silhouettes in easy-to-wear fabrics, creating, as Paquette puts it, “a blend of classic fashion and modern flair.”
Jeffrey lends his signature avant-garde edge to the brand, evidenced by the collection’s synthesis of his three inspirations: the backstage of a ballet rehearsal, the dance floor of an 80’s disco night club, and the front row of a rock concert. With Sebelia at the helm, the Spring 2010 line reinvents its formula through the use of special wax treatments, sheer modal, and black
stripe burnout. Jeffrey’s vision is both versatile and unique, putting a twist on the classics to give them a cool update while maintaining the everyday functionality Fluxus is known for.
About Jeffrey Sebelia – American designer Jeffrey Sebelia gained worldwide recognition when he was announced the winner of the Emmy-nominated Bravo series Project Runway in 2006. After working as a production designer on commercials and music videos, the designer created his own label, Cosa Nostra, in 2003. Jeffrey was honored as a GENart New Guard Designer in 2004.
The Los Angeles Times described his look as “dystopian rock ‘n’ roll—‘Blade Runner’ meets Vivienne Westwood’s Sex Pistols with a touch of Oscar Wilde dandy.” His designs have quickly become celebrity favorites among the likes of Dave Navarro, a childhood friend, Gwen Stefani, Liv Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, Marilyn Manson (whom he styled on his latest tour) and many more.

Aggy's New Hair

Not since Linda Evangelista's heyday has a model been so famous for her changing hairstyles - and now Agyness Deyn has unveiled a new shorter-than-ever crop.

The New York-based model's new style was revealed on Twitter by Love Magazine - and sees her shed her Gothic dark bob and previous peroxide pixie-cut in favour of a super-short style in her natural colour.
The Vogue cover girl was out and about earlier this week with VOGUE.COM blogger Henry Holland in the US, still sporting her dark angular bob and causing trouble with Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof -

Couture Denim

Hudson jeans is launching a high-end couture collection, designed by Benjamin Taverniti. The collection, named Resurrection, is constructed by hand from recycled denim and comes with a hefty $995 price tag, compared to the non-recycled main line which retails at between $215 and $325 a pair.

"We keep archives of all of our past collections going back to the start of the company," head designer Taverniti, who created bespoke pieces for French Vogue aged 19, explained.
"I wanted to find a way to breathe new life into them - they are a reinterpretation of Hudson history."
The Hudson Jeans campaign is fronted by the British Fashion Awards Model of the Year Georgia May Jagger for the second season - and Taverniti insists she is a perfect fit.
"Her genetic DNA and our brand DNA are one and the same," Taverniti told Luxist. "Her mother Jerry Hall is American and her father Mick Jagger [is British] - and Hudson is born in California, but rooted in London. [Georgia] is also the ultimate Hudson girl - the personification of rock 'n' roll meets glamour, who embodies California freedom and British cool. She is effortlessly stylish and isn't afraid to take risks or to be herself while creating her own destiny."

What do you think?

SATC:The Nailpolish

On 27 May 2010 is Sex and the City II in German cinemas. And now, the merchandising is in full swing. Since there is SATC-After-Party Shoes and Abso **** inglutely-shirts in the HBO Shop (store.hbo.com), or SATC Cosabella Lingerie at (cosabella.com). But nothing makes the heart beat of beauty editors are currently higher than the SATC-nail polish collection of julep. First, because the nuances of 'Carrie' (iced pink), 'Samantha' (shimmering, hot pink), 'Miranda' (retro turquoise) and 'Charlotte' (lavender frosting) sprayed clearly SATC flair. Second, because the colors can also burn the movie without reference pure desire among (and on) our nails. And even without the annoying second paint layer.
